The narrative, which continues immediately from 'Overture', centres on Philip, a man searching for his lost father in icy Greenland. The nature of the story means it is recommended that players experience 'Overture' first - however, the plot is fairly simple to pick up for those coming to the Penumbra series for the first time. Despite the game's use of first-person as it's foil, 'Black Plague' distinguishes itself by it's focus on logic puzzles and narrative thrust.
The protagonist won't shoot a single thing, with hostile encounters typically resolved through stealth or a more thoughtful method of dispatch. Hence, it's not a game that will satisfy those with a desire for action.
Thankfully, Penumbra has plot by the truckloads and where Overture established the foundations and then expanded on it slowly, Black Plague quickly builds a mini-epic out of the initial clichés and predictable turns. The protagonist in this stylishly dark survival horror is Philip, a physicist with more daddy issues than the entire cast of Lost. I decided to write the walkthrough after writing one for the first episode.
I have seen other walkthroughs that don't have as much detail as this walkthrough. My walkthrough also includes maps with item locations marked to make it easier to navigate the game.
This guide has been written by me after some long painstaking effort so please do not rip my walkthrough off. You'll then need to do some sneaking.
The enemies you will encounter include: Infected - Humans taken over by the Tuurngait Virus. Worms - Giant worm from last game only encounter one You can't kill any of them except in one instance in the Shelter so avoid and run if spotted.
The whole area is interlinked so I have included an entire map of the location rather than indvidual maps for different sections. I didn't have a clue what was going on and, all of a sudden, I really didn't care. Imprisoned observing the Tuurngait movement, I predict it will be my cell they visit next.
To my knowledge I am the last remaining member of the elevated at this facility, and so it falls upon me that the xeno protocol is not compromised. Grab the key and use it on the locked room, use the computer and unlock the chemical room airlock.
Chemical Room: Put on the gas mask, use a rock to break the rusty pipes, replace the pipes with the good ones scattered around the room go into the airlock.
Take a right, there's an infected that just stands around here, go grab a barrel and toss it to distract him so the infected moves a bit then you can hit the switch he's standing next to. Run to the door that just got unlocked.

After the 2nd room, leg it past the hallway and block the door by moving the big rack on the left in front of it. This is the same request the Tuurngait made of Philip's father Howard, however Philip thwarted it by coming to investigate instead of following his father's instructions.
Philip seemingly agrees to the Tuurngait's request, and sends an email to a friend on the surface describing his adventure.
I promised the hive that I would contact someone I could trust, that I would have them destroy all the evidence of this place, just as my father had promised himself. I, however, will not make the same mistakes my father. Penumbra: Black Plague is the second installment of the Penumbra series of episodic video games developed by Frictional Games. The story continues from the previous episode, Penumbra: Overture, showing the protagonist Philip moving away from the abandoned mine setting of the original to explore an underground research base. Black Plague was released in February to generally favourable. For Penumbra: Black Plague on the PC, a GameFAQs message board topic titled "Stumped (Freezer at the beginning)".
However, at the last moment, Philip reveals his desire to exercise his free will, instead of blindly obeying a higher power. Stating that he has more in common with Clarence than with the Tuurngait, Philip gives his friend the coordinates of the mine and tells him to come and destroy the Tuurngait.
His last words are: "Kill them.
Although the game is presented as a first-person adventure game, it also contains elements of first-person shooter and survival horror gameplay. Thankfully, Black Plague learns from these mistakes and is greatly improved, proving to be an unusual and entertaining experience. The story continues directly on from Overture, yet it can be played without prior knowledge thanks to a variety of notes and computer entries which gradually fill you in on the more complex back-story.
Having made his way through the deserted mine of the previous instalment, the protagonist, Philip, now finds himself in the abandoned research facility which he discovers in Overture's closing act.
